Painted Rocks of Tafraout
The painted boulders of Jean Vérame near Tafraout in the pink granite Anti-Atlas
In 1984, Belgian artist Jean Vérame painted massive granite boulders in the Anti-Atlas blue, red, and violet. The colours have faded but the rocks remain — surreal against the pink granite landscape. Tafraout itself sits in an almond valley; visit in February when the blossoms turn the Anti-Atlas white.
Tafraout is on our Anti-Atlas circuit. We time it for February when the almond blossoms turn the valley white and the painted rocks look stranger than ever.
