The Rock Art Roads

10 days / 9 nights
Ouarzazate → Taznakht → Jbel Saghro → Tazzarine → Aït Ouazik → Iferd → Akka → Tata → Amtoudi → Agadir

A slow passage through the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara’s forgotten plateaus — where stone remembers what language forgot. From the dry gorges of the Anti-Atlas to the open plains near Tata, this journey follows the earliest human traces across Morocco’s deep south — a slow archaeology of wind, silence, and stone.

Day 1 – Ouarzazate

Arrive in Ouarzazate, where desert and mountain meet. Visit Taourirt Kasbah or the film studios, but keep your gaze on the hills — their stillness is older than cinema.

Day 2 – Taznakht

Drive south toward Taznakht, land of carpets and nomad dyes. Stay the night among artisans; their patterns echo the same geometry carved on nearby stone.

Day 3 – Jbel Saghro

Cross into Jbel Saghro, a labyrinth of rock and silence. Ancient caravan paths twist through peaks that once guided traders from Timbuktu.

Day 4 – Tazzarine

Reach Tazzarine, where the Sahara begins to speak in whispers. Walk at dusk; the sand here glows with the memory of hoofprints and stars.

Day 5 – Aït Ouazik

Spend the morning among carvings of hunters and oxen. The rock panels lie open to the sky, older than temples. Listen — the past here is not silent, only slow.

Day 6 – Iferd

Continue to Iferd, one of Morocco’s richest open-air galleries. Walk carefully; each step crosses thousands of years. Overnight in a nearby village beneath unbroken stars.

Day 7 – Akka

Akka’s palms shimmer beside ancient rock faces. Visit the petroglyphs of Imi n’Talat, where cattle and hunters march forever across the stone.

Day 8 – Tata

Follow the palm belt to Tata. The town’s rhythm slows to the sound of irrigation channels. The air feels ancient yet kind.

Day 9 – Amtoudi

Climb to the fortified agadir, a granary that watched over caravans for centuries. The wind moves through its corridors like breath through an instrument.

Day 10 – Agadir

End at the ocean, where salt replaces dust. The journey closes in water’s reflection — stone’s oldest mirror.
