Responsible Travel & Code of Conduct.

Last updated: November 2025

At Slow Morocco, travel is an act of respect. Each journey we design supports local communities, preserves traditional knowledge, and honours Morocco’s living culture. We invite our travellers to walk gently, listen deeply, and contribute positively to every place they encounter.

1. Respect for People and Culture

Morocco’s strength lies in its diversity — Amazigh, Arab, Saharan, Andalusian, African. When visiting homes, villages, or sacred spaces, dress modestly, ask before taking photographs, and follow your guide’s advice.
Simple gestures of courtesy — greetings in Arabic or Tamazight, acceptance of tea, or removing shoes when invited into a home — are greatly appreciated.

2. Local Communities and Fair Exchange

We work directly with small, often family-run partners who depend on tourism for their livelihood. Paying fair prices, avoiding aggressive bargaining, and purchasing handmade products directly from artisans help ensure that tourism remains beneficial and dignified.
Tips are welcome when service exceeds expectations, but they should never replace gratitude expressed in words.

3. Environment and Wildlife

Morocco’s landscapes are fragile — from desert dunes to cedar forests.
Please:

  • Conserve water and energy whenever possible.

  • Avoid single-use plastics; bring a refillable bottle.

  • Do not collect natural materials or disturb wildlife.

  • Leave each place as you found it — or cleaner.

In desert or mountain environments, waste disposal can be limited. Your guide will help you manage this responsibly.

4. Photography and Digital Etiquette

Photography should never feel extractive. Always ask before photographing people, especially in rural areas or during religious ceremonies.
Avoid drones unless authorised. Respect local laws and privacy; not every moment is meant to be shared.

5. Behaviour and Safety

Kindness and patience go further than speed or complaint. Moroccan travel can involve delays, dust, and delightful unpredictability.
Aggressive, disrespectful, or discriminatory behaviour toward guides, staff, or other travellers will not be tolerated. Slow Morocco reserves the right to end participation in any journey without refund if behaviour compromises group harmony or local relationships.

6. Animal Welfare

We work only with partners who treat animals with care and dignity.
If your journey includes camels, mules, or horses, they are locally owned and regularly checked for proper feeding, rest, and load limits.
We ask travellers to support our no-exploitation policy: no wild animal shows, photo props, or captive wildlife encounters.

7. Shared Responsibility

Sustainable travel is a partnership. We handle logistics with integrity; you bring openness, respect, and curiosity. Together, we create the kind of travel Morocco deserves.
