The Atlantic Descent — Casablanca to Dakhla
Duration: 15 days / 14 nights
Arc: From the White City to the Silver Desert — following Morocco’s western edge where sea, salt, and silence meet.
A 15-day descent through light and latitude — from the bustle of Casablanca to the wind-shaped lagoons of Dakhla. Cities fade, the air grows clearer, and the world becomes a mirror of sea and sand.
Day 1 – Casablanca
Arrive in Casablanca, Morocco’s modern threshold. Walk the Corniche at dusk, the air heavy with salt. The call to prayer rises from the sea itself.
Day 2 – El Jadida
Follow the coast south to El Jadida, where the Portuguese built their walled citadel. Light falls quietly through the vaulted cistern; outside, gulls turn above white ramparts.
Day 3 – Oualidia
Drive along the Atlantic fields to Oualidia. The sea here rests in a circular lagoon, half salt, half sky. Lunch of oysters, then walk the shore as light turns silver.
Day 4 – Essaouira
Continue toward Essaouira, the old Mogador. Wind and gulls, blue shutters, and white walls worn smooth by time. Evening sounds of drums drift from the square.
Day 5 – Agadir
Drive south through argan forests. Agadir feels open and new — a place rebuilt after ruin. Dinner by the sea, waves whispering against the promenade.
Day 6 – Tiznit and Mirleft
Leave the city behind. The road narrows through Tiznit and winds along cliffs to Mirleft. Stay where the surf meets rock — red against silver.
Day 7 – Sidi Ifni
Drive a short way to Sidi Ifni, once Spanish, now half dream. Wander the empty streets where the sea hums below white terraces.
Day 8 – Plage Blanche
The road dissolves into tracks and then into sand. Plage Blanche stretches for miles between ocean and desert cliffs. Only wind, footprints, and the sound of space.
Day 9 – Tan-Tan Plage
Reach Tan-Tan Plage, where the Sahara first touches the sea. Evening light folds over dunes and fishing boats.
Day 10 – Tarfaya
Continue south along a road of wind and mirage. Tarfaya—Saint-Exupéry’s coast. Visit the small museum and stand where the desert air hums like static.
Day 11 – Laâyoune
Arrive in Laâyoune, a city half-real, half-mirage. The minarets rise from sand plains; palm gardens shimmer in heat. Evening tea with desert wind.
Day 12 – Dakhla Lagoon
Drive the long final stretch to Dakhla. The lagoon appears suddenly — glassy, immense. Wind-surfers in the distance like specks of light.
Day 13 – Dakhla
Morning by the water. Visit Dragon Island, or simply watch the tide advance and retreat in complete quiet.
Day 14 – Dakhla
A final day at the end of the world. Drive along the peninsula, see flamingos wading through mirror water. The ocean feels eternal, patient, unchanging.
Day 15 – Departure
Morning flight or long northward return. The journey lingers — a coastline remembered not in distance, but in light.
