Fès to Marrakech via Merzouga

Duration: 3 days / 2 nights
Arc: Fès to Marrakech via Merzouga

Three days that reveal Morocco’s full geography — cedar forest, desert silence, mountain pass, and the red glow of Marrakech.

Day 1 — Fès to Merzouga

Depart early from Fès, crossing the cedar forests of Azrou where light filters through tall trees. Continue past Midelt, with views of the High Atlas peaks, and descend into the palm-filled Ziz Valley. Arrive in Merzouga by late afternoon and ride into the dunes of Erg Chebbi for sunset. Dinner and night in the stillness of the Sahara.

Day 2 — Merzouga to Dades

Depart the dunes after sunrise and trace the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs westward. Pass Erfoud and the palms of Tinejdad, then follow the Todra Gorge where sheer cliffs glow in the afternoon light. Continue through rose valleys and earthen villages to spend the night amid the red canyons of Dades.

Day 3 — Dades to Marrakech

Leave the valley’s red cliffs behind and journey west through Ouarzazate and across the High Atlas. Climb the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass, where mountains open toward the plains, and descend to Marrakech by evening — the desert dust fading into the city’s red glow.
