Fès to Merzouga
Duration: 3 days / 2 nights
Arc: From the sacred calm of Fès to the dunes of Merzouga and back through cedar and stone.
A short journey from the heart of the north to the edge of silence. Mountains, forests, and desert — Morocco’s landscapes drawn in three strokes of light.
Day 1 — Fès to Merzouga
Depart early from Fès, crossing the cedar forests of Azrou where light filters through tall trees. Continue past Midelt, with views of the High Atlas peaks, and descend into the palm-filled Ziz Valley. Arrive in Merzouga by late afternoon and ride into the dunes of Erg Chebbi for sunset. Dinner and night in the stillness of the Sahara.
Day 2 — The Desert Day
A day to linger in the silence of the Sahara. After sunrise and a slow breakfast, set out by 4x4 to explore beyond the dunes — tracing fossil beds, meeting nomadic families for tea, and pausing for lunch in a hidden oasis near Erg Chebbi. Return to camp by afternoon as the wind reshapes the sand. Evening descends in stillness — firelight, stars, and the long quiet of the desert night.
Day 3 — Merzouga to Fès
After breakfast, begin the return north through the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas. Stop in Midelt for lunch before climbing again into cedar country. By evening, the walls and minarets of Fès reappear — the golden city of learning, now seen with desert eyes.
