The Northern Line: Exile and Light

Duration: 8 days / 7 nights
Arc: Fes → Sefrou → Meknes → Chefchaouen → Tetouan → Asilah
Essence: A quiet pilgrimage through the cities of exile — from Fes’s learned courtyards to the blue silence of Chefchaouen, where Andalusian light still lingers on white walls.

This journey follows the northern thread of Jewish Morocco — where scholars, poets, and merchants once carried exile across mountains and sea. The rhythm is slow: footsteps, prayers, wind over stone.

Day 1 – Fes

Begin in Fes, cradle of memory. Walk through the old mellah, visit Ibn Danan synagogue, and let the city’s labyrinth whisper its centuries of study and faith.

Day 2 – Sefrou

A short drive from Fes lies Sefrou, once a town of saints and storytellers. Visit the shared shrine of the saint Dawdi, where Jewish and Muslim pilgrims once prayed side by side for rain.

Day 3 – Meknes

In Meknes, explore the mellah built under Moulay Ismail’s reign. The rhythm is royal yet intimate — a city of gates, gardens, and quiet coexistence.

Day 4 – Across the Rif

Drive north through olive fields and low mountains. The air grows cooler, the palette shifts from gold to green. Each turn feels like a crossing between centuries.

Day 5 – Chefchaouen

Founded by Andalusian exiles, this town still breathes their gentleness. Walk early; the blue is most vivid before the sun fully wakes.

Day 6 – Tetouan

Tetouan was rebuilt by refugees of Al-Andalus. The music of malhoun still carries the cadence of prayer. Visit the restored synagogue, where sound becomes memory.

Day 7 – Asilah

End by the Atlantic. The sea has always been Morocco’s final archive — the keeper of every exile’s reflection. Walk the walls, listen to the tide, let the journey dissolve.

Day 8 – Tangier

For those continuing north, Tangier offers a last threshold — cosmopolitan, restless, and filled with departures.
