The Sky and the Sand: In the Footsteps of Saint-Exupéry
Duration: 8 days / 7 nights
Arc: Agadir → Guelmim → Tarfaya → Laâyoune → Tan-Tan → Souss Valley → Agadir
Essence: A slow odyssey through Morocco’s southern skies — tracing the solitude, wind, and horizon that shaped The Little Prince.
Long before The Little Prince dreamed of his planet, Saint-Exupéry flew across these coasts — carrying letters, chasing dawns, and learning the silence of sand. This journey follows his route through Morocco’s far south, where sky and earth still meet as equals.
Day 1 – Agadir, The Wind Begins
Arrival in Agadir. Evening by the Atlantic, reading excerpts from Wind, Sand and Stars. The sound of the sea becomes your first memory of flight.
Day 2 – Guelmim
Drive south through the Anti-Atlas foothills to Guelmim, known as the “Gateway to the Desert.” Visit the old camel market and the museum of Saharan life. Dinner in a palm garden.
Day 3 – Tarfaya
Continue south along the ocean, tracing the Aéropostale line. Stop by the ruins of coastal airstrips. Arrive in Tarfaya, Saint-Exupéry’s outpost between sand and sea.
Day 4 – Tarfaya
Visit the small Saint-Exupéry Museum and the remains of the Aéropostale station. Walk along the beach where pilots once landed mail and dreams. Evening reading by lantern light — “What is essential is invisible to the eye.”
Day 5 – Laâyoune
Drive deeper south through the Sahara plains. In Laâyoune, visit the small aviation memorial and meet local storytellers who remember the French mail line. Dinner of fish tagine by the river’s edge.
Day 6 – Tan-Tan
Follow the old desert road north to Tan-Tan, once another refueling point on the Aéropostale route. Visit the small desert museum. Overnight in a simple eco-lodge surrounded by dunes.
Day 7 – Souss Valley
Drive back north through the Souss Valley. Lunch among argan trees and honey farms. The landscape softens again — from sky to earth, from horizon to harvest.
Day 8 – Agadir
Return to Agadir. Free time to rest or write. Evening farewell dinner — to the wind, the sand, and the stars that guided Saint-Exupéry and still guide the quiet traveler.
