The Anti-Atlas at its wildest: volcanic peaks, canyon lands, and the winter camps of the Ait Atta nomads. Jbel Saghro offers trekking without the crowds of Toubkal — rougher, lonelier, stranger landscapes. The range lies between Ouarzazate and the Draa Valley, reachable from either direction. The main trails start from Nkob or Boumalne Dades. Multi-day treks cross the massif; shorter walks explore the edges. The terrain is black volcanic rock, not the brown pisé of the valleys. Winter is the season: November through February, when the Ait Atta bring their herds down from the High Atlas. Their camps dot the valleys — black goat-hair tents, sheep and goats, a way of life that continues despite everything. Spring brings wildflowers; summer brings heat. Best time: November-March Allow: 2-5 days (trekking) Combine with: Draa Valley and Todra Gorge
