Bab el-Kasaba

The main gate of the Asilah medina, built by the Portuguese in the 15th century as part of the fortification of their Atlantic port. The horseshoe arch is Portuguese in engineering and Moroccan in ornament — the hybrid style that defines the entire city. The gate is the most direct entry to the medina from the town square.
