Moussem of Salé

The annual pilgrimage and candlelit procession that takes place in Salé on the eve of Mouloud — the Prophet's birthday. Candle-bearers carry elaborate wax constructions through the medina lanes to the waterfront, where they board boats to cross the river. One of the most visually extraordinary religious festivals in Morocco and almost entirely unknown to tourists.
