110 metres of water falling into pools where the brave swim. The Barbary macaques watch from the olive trees, waiting for lunch.
01
Morocco's Niagara
The Ouzoud Falls drop 110 metres in three cascades into a red canyon. They are the highest waterfalls in North Africa. The name may derive from the Amazigh for 'olive trees' — the surrounding forest is thick with them. Barbary macaques inhabit the canyon walls.
02
The Falls
Three cascading tiers dropping into a plunge pool. The spray generates a permanent rainbow in the morning light. The canyon walls are red and green — rock and vegetation. Simple café terraces line the descent path.
03
Visiting
150 km northeast of Marrakech, about 2.5 hours by road. The walk down to the base of the falls takes 20 minutes. Swimming in the plunge pool is possible. Avoid weekends and holidays when busloads arrive from Marrakech and Beni Mellal.
Best Time to Visit
Spring for the strongest water flow. Morning for the rainbow. Weekdays for fewer crowds.

Ouzoud is a day trip from Marrakech that we build into longer itineraries. The Barbary macaques are the bonus — the falls themselves are the reason.
