The highest waterfall in North Africa — 110 meters cascading into pools where the brave swim. Spectacular after spring rains, beautiful otherwise. The Barbary macaques are always present.

The highest waterfall in North Africa — 110 meters of cascading water plunging into pools where you can swim. The falls are spectacular after spring rains; they're merely beautiful the rest of the year. Either way, the monkeys are present. Barbary macaques live in the trees around the falls, habituated to tourists and bold about food. Don't feed them; they don't need encouragement. The path descends through olive groves to the base of the falls, where the mist creates rainbows and the brave swim in cold water. The site has become commercialised — restaurants, guides, persistent vendors. Come early to avoid the crowds and the midday heat. The walk to the base takes 20 minutes down, longer coming up. Boat rides along the pool are available for a fee. Best time: Morning (fewer people, better light) Allow: 3-4 hours (including drive from Marrakech) Combine with: Beni Mellal or Azilal
