Palace of Raisuni

Built in 1909 by Ahmed al-Raisuni — the bandit, warlord, and self-appointed governor of northern Morocco who kidnapped American citizens and European diplomats for ransom and used the proceeds to build himself a palace overlooking the Atlantic. The terrace faces the ocean. The rooms inside are decorated with zellige and carved cedar. The man who commissioned them held the Moroccan north in terror for twenty years.
