Mellah of Sefrou

The Jewish quarter of Sefrou — one of the best preserved in Morocco, and the community it housed was one of the oldest continuously settled Jewish populations in Africa. At its peak in the 1940s, Jews made up over half of Sefrou's population. The alliance between the Jewish and Muslim communities here was historically deep. The synagogues are still standing.
