The Amazigh souk of Taroudant, trading in leather, silver, and stone for locals

Souks of Taroudant

Ochre walls, two souks, no crowds. The Marrakech that Marrakech used to be — before the riads, before the influencers, before the tour groups arrived.

Two distinct souks: the Arab souk for spices, textiles, and household goods, and the Amazigh souk for leather, jewellery, and stone. Less polished than Marrakech, less overwhelming than Fes — Taroudant's markets still trade primarily for locals.

The Taroudant souks are a stop we build into Anti-Atlas itineraries. Less performance, more commerce — this is where locals buy.

Tips

Called "Little Marrakech" for its ochre walls — but quieter, cheaper, and with no tourist crowds. The souk is excellent for leather and Amazigh jewellery. Two main souks: Arab souk (spices, textiles) and Berber souk (vegetables, livestock). The ramparts circuit is 7.5km — walkable in 2 hours or hire a calèche.
