Todra Palm Grove

The palmeraie that lines the Todra river for several kilometres before the gorge narrows — date palms and fruit trees irrigated by the same river that carved the canyon above. The palm grove is the reason the Amazigh communities settled here: the river, the shade, the dates, the irrigable soil. The gorge is dramatic. The palm grove is what sustained life.
