Mellah of Tangier

The Jewish quarter of Tangier, established within the medina walls in the 19th century. Tangier's Jewish community was one of the most cosmopolitan in Morocco — Spanish-speaking Sephardim who had been in the city since the 15th century and served as interpreters, bankers, and diplomats between the sultan's court and the European powers.
