Boumalne Dades

The market town at the entrance to the Dades Gorge — the point where the road from Ouarzazate turns north into the valley. The weekly souk serves the valley communities for 80 kilometres north. The town itself is a Protectorate-era construction but the kasbah quarter on the hill above it is much older, built by the Aït Atta tribe who controlled the valley approaches.
