The largest Jewish burial ground in Morocco. 22,000 whitewashed tombs. Lalla Solica is here.

Twenty-two thousand whitewashed tombs, all facing Jerusalem.

The Habarim is the largest Jewish burial ground in Morocco. Established in the 19th century on this site, it contains the resting places of rabbis, scholars, political figures, and saints. Including Lalla Solica — Sol Hachuel — the sixteen-year-old from Tangier killed for refusing to convert in 1834.

The cemetery was fully restored in 2015 under royal patronage. Three small synagogues within the grounds serve as museum and prayer space. Visitors come from around the world. The tombs are immaculately maintained — whitewashed, sun-drenched, quiet.

Rabbi Yehuda Ben Attar, who died in 1733, is buried here. His tomb draws pilgrims. More Jewish saints rest in this cemetery than in any other in Morocco.
