Slat al-Fassiyine Synagogue
Slat al-Fassiyine, Fes mellah. The synagogue of the indigenous Fassi Jews — the toshavim who were here before the Spanish arrived.
The synagogue of the indigenous Fassi Jews. The toshavim — the ones who were here before Spain expelled anyone.
The toshavim built this one. The indigenous Moroccan Jews of Fes — the ones who were here centuries before the megorashim arrived from Spain.
Slat al-Fassiyine. The synagogue of the Fassis. Smaller, plainer than the Ibn Danan. The distinction between the two communities — toshavim and megorashim — lasted for generations. Separate synagogues, separate cemeteries, separate customs. They merged eventually. But the architecture remembers the division.
Restored alongside the Ibn Danan. Both now under the care of Muslim guardians. Both open to visitors.

Tips
The second restored synagogue in the Fes mellah. Less visited than Ibn Danan. Often open when the guardian is present. Worth combining both in a single visit.
