Bab el-Had

The main gate of the Rabat medina, opening onto the central boulevard. Its name means "Sunday Gate" — named for the weekly market that gathered outside it. It was rebuilt by the Almohads in the 12th century and has served as the ceremonial entrance to the city ever since. The market outside it is still there on Sunday mornings.
