Place Mohammed V

The civic heart of Casablanca, surrounded by the most concentrated collection of art deco architecture in Africa. The Prefecture, the Palace of Justice, the French Consulate, the post office — all built between 1920 and 1940 by French architects who fused European modernism with Moorish ornament. The fountain in the centre plays at night. The buildings are best seen at dusk when the limestone turns gold.
