Les Jardins de la Ménara

A 12th-century pavilion reflected in a vast basin, olive groves stretching toward the Atlas Mountains — Menara is Marrakech's iconic postcard image. The reality includes picnicking families, balloon sellers, and the occasional wedding party, but the view remains. The gardens were built by the Almohads as a royal retreat, supplied by a khettara — an underground canal — that still brings water from the mountains. The pavilion dates from the 19th century, a Saadian-era structure rebuilt after earlier versions collapsed. The pool is original; the reflections are timeless. The gardens are popular with locals on weekends and holidays. The olive groves offer space to wander; the basin offers the photograph. The pavilion is accessible for a small fee, but the view from below may be better. Come at sunset when the light turns gold. Best time: Sunset Allow: 1 hour Combine with: Agdal Gardens and Cyber Park
