Le MAP — Monde des Arts de la Parure
Three thousand pieces of adornment from fifty countries — jewelry, textiles, ceremonial dress. A private collection built over decades, now displayed in the Kasbah. The rooftop restaurant alone is worth the visit.
Le MAP presents nearly 3,000 pieces of adornment, jewelry, textiles, and ceremonial dress from over fifty countries. The collection was assembled over decades by Marlène and Paolo Ponce-Gallone — selected from 7,000 pieces gathered during years of travel and research. The focus is parure in the French sense: the art of adorning the body. Jewelry, yes, but also headdresses, fibulas, amber beads, ceremonial textiles, and objects that marked status, tribe, and occasion across cultures. The geographic range spans continents — this isn't a Moroccan collection but a global one, shown in Morocco. The building sits in the Kasbah quarter near the royal palace. The architecture alone rewards the visit: restored traditional spaces, courtyards, and the attention to detail you'd expect from collectors of this caliber. The rooftop restaurant SHAMS serves Levantine and Mediterranean food with views over the medina. Best time: Midday, combine with lunch at SHAMS Allow: 1.5-2 hours Combine with: Bahia Palace, El Badi Palace, Saadian Tombs
