A Dutch collector's obsession, assembled over decades. Artifacts from the trans-Saharan trade routes, organised as a journey south from the High Atlas to Timbuktu. Intimate and scholarly.
A Dutch collector's obsession, assembled over decades and donated to Morocco. Bert Flint gathered artifacts from the trans-Saharan trade routes — Tuareg jewelry, Saharan leatherwork, textiles, weapons — and installed them in a riad near the Bahia Palace. The collection is organized as a journey: you move south through the rooms, from the High Atlas to Timbuktu. Each region's material culture fills a room. The objects are beautiful; the arrangement is scholarly; the building is intimate and personal in ways large museums cannot be. Flint still lives in Marrakech. The museum reflects his vision — not an encyclopedic survey but a specific eye, particular interests, decades of relationships with craftspeople and traders. Small museums like this are rare; they capture something that institutions cannot. Best time: Any time (rarely crowded) Allow: 1 hour Combine with: Bahia Palace and Dar Si Said
