Souk Cherratine
The leatherworkers' souk, where the hides arrive raw and leave as belts, sandals, pouches, and book covers. The smell is particular — tanned leather and lanolin. The craftsmen cut by eye, stitch without patterns. A pair of babouches made to measure takes twenty minutes and lasts a decade.
